What to Do While Waiting On God’s Best
You are not behind. Trust the process. Embrace the season. God is preparing you.
There is something difficult about waiting. We live in a world that celebrates rushing—rushing into relationships, careers, and timelines that may not align with God’s best for our lives. It’s easy to look around and wonder if you’ve somehow missed your moment. You see engagement announcements, wedding photos, growing families, and fulfilled dreams while asking God, “When will it be my turn?”
If you’ve ever felt forgotten or left behind, I want to encourage you today—you are not behind.
Waiting is not punishment. It is often preparation.
Your single season is not something to simply endure until life begins. It is a sacred season where God is inviting you to heal, grow, discover your purpose, and deepen your relationship with Him. Your value has never been determined by your relationship status. You are already chosen, already loved, and already worthy because of whose you are.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jeremiah 29:11
Spend Time With God Daily
Waiting becomes much lighter when you realize you’re not waiting alone.
God never intended for us to spend our waiting season anxiously watching the clock. Instead, He invites us into His presence. The greatest gift of singleness is having the opportunity to intentionally cultivate intimacy with Him.
Spend time reading His Word, praying, journaling, and listening for His voice. Don’t allow your prayer life to become centered only around what you’re waiting for. Seek Him simply because He is worthy to be known.
Ask yourself:
• Am I pursuing God’s heart or simply His promises?
• Have I allowed Him access to every area of my life?
• Am I becoming the woman God created me to be?
The more time you spend with God, the more you’ll discover that His presence satisfies what the world promises cannot.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
James 4:8
Discover Your Purpose While Waiting
Your purpose did not begin when you became someone’s wife.
God has a purpose for you today.
There are gifts inside of you that He wants to develop during this season. Perhaps He’s calling you to serve others, begin that business, go back to school, write that book, or simply learn to love yourself the way He does.
Stop placing your life on pause waiting for permission to become who God created you to be.
You don’t have to wait to be used by God. He is using you right now. Allow God to Heal What Still Hurts
Many of us are waiting while carrying wounds from our past.
Perhaps you’ve experienced rejection, betrayal, narcissistic abuse, disappointment, or relationships that caused you to question your worth. Healing takes time, and God is gentle with the process.
Allow Him to heal what people could not.
Healing may look like:
• Forgiving those who hurt you.
• Establishing healthy boundaries.
• Breaking unhealthy relationship patterns.
• Learning your identity in Christ.
• Choosing purity and obedience even when it’s difficult.
God isn’t simply interested in changing your circumstances—He’s interested in transforming your heart.
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”
Psalm 147:3
Stop Comparing Your Timeline
Comparison will steal the joy of the season God has you in.
Someone else’s testimony isn’t your timeline.
The woman who married at twenty-five isn’t ahead of the woman who marries at forty-five. The woman who never marries is not less valuable than the woman who does. God writes different stories for each of His daughters.
Stop measuring your life against someone else’s highlight reel.
God isn’t late.
Sometimes He protects us through waiting. Sometimes He develops us through waiting. Sometimes He redirects us through waiting.
No season is wasted when it is surrendered to Him.
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
Ecclesiastes 3:1
Embrace Your Single Season
There are beautiful things that can only grow in seasons of waiting.
Perhaps God is teaching you to trust Him more deeply. Perhaps He’s building confidence within you that isn’t dependent upon external validation. Perhaps He’s teaching you contentment, peace, and joy that cannot be shaken by circumstances.
Embrace the season you’re in.
Travel if you’d like. Learn something new. Serve others. Laugh often. Rest when needed. Pursue the things God has placed upon your heart.
Your life is happening now.
You are not waiting to become valuable—you already are.
A Prayer While Waiting
Heavenly Father,
Thank You that I am not forgotten. Forgive me for every time I have compared my journey to someone else’s or believed the lie that I am behind. Help me to trust Your timing and embrace the season You have me in today. Heal every wounded place in my heart and teach me to become the woman You created me to be. Give me peace while I wait and joy while I grow. Help me to walk confidently in my purpose knowing that You are faithful to complete every good work You have begun in me.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
